Wednesday 12th May saw a return to our annual Poetry Recital competition and in a bid to be altogether in our bubbles, we held the event in the glorious outdoors with the cricket pavilion providing a wonderful stage for our performers. Despite a very few wet weeks, we were treated to a rare spell of sunshine and so with a new venue; new and returning performers; and a new addition to the judging panel (Yarlet’s favourite story teller - Alan Barrett); the event began.
There were 11 class performances and 36 individual performances with four prizes up for grabs: pre-prep and main school individual winners; and pre-prep and main school class winners. The poems ranged from humorous to poignant, short to long, rhyming to free verse, and everything in between.
In a tightly fought contest, there were a wealth of commendations but the winners were:
Pre-prep Class Winners - Form 1: ‘I Cannot go to School Today’Main School Class Winners - Form 7: ‘The Great Realisation’Pre-prep Individual Winner - Frankie: ‘Down Behind the Dustbin’Main School Winner - Dillan: ‘The Tiger and the Zebra’
Thank you to everyone who took part - it was a true joy to watch. Here’s to next year!
