U13 FOOTBALL SEASON ROUND-UP

Senior Football 2

Our U13 football team has enjoyed a successful season.

In the final match before half term we entertained Packwood. We were dominant early on but missed a number of chances. Eventually, Korylco-Bowers broke the deadlock, then he quickly added a second. However, we allowed the visitors to draw level, before Raine smashed home to restore the lead. Korylco-Bowers completed his hat-trick and we won 4 – 2. We made hard work of a game we should have won more easily.
In the 6-a-side mini-tournament at The Ryleys we beat Beech Hall 6 – 0, Kingsmead 4 – 0 and the hosts 2 – 0. It was a bit of a romp.
Sooner or later we knew that injury and illness would cost us dear, and unfortunately it happened against Birchfield. Without Raine and Thowless-Reeves we struggled, though Korylco-Bowers scored one of the goals of the season with a superb volley from Hardy-Smith's corner. We were constantly playing catch-up, eventually losing 3 – 4.
The trip to Shrewsbury High Prep was a happier occasion, even though we were fielding a weakened team. We won 12-1 in a match cut short to save our opponents from further punishment.
Our final match was at Foremarke, and it saw a first with two girls, Tawana Chadhani and Elizabeth Morris, playing for us. We had won the home fixture 4 – 2, but with a weakened defence it was always going to be a struggle. We went 0 - 2 down, pulled level, but Foremarke scored a winner ten minutes from time. Try as we might, we couldn't find an equaliser.
Thanks are due to all the boys (and girls) who gave everything they had got for the team. This was very mucha team of mixed-ability, but a record of 10 wins and 2 defeats shows what a successful season we had. A special note of praise for Harrison Hardy-Smith, Gabriel Korylco-Bowers and captain Jacob Raine, three outstanding footballers who led by example in every game they played. Gabriel finished top scorer with 26 goals in all matches, while his dad was supporter of the season after attending nearly all the matches. Roll on next year, though we could do with a couple of new signings when the transfer window opens.
