Religion can come in many forms, beliefs, practices and cultures as our investigative Form Seven's found out today in Derby.
They headed firstly to a Hindu mandir (temple) where they witnessed Arti (worship)- the constant ringing of the bells helped to clear their minds of any negative thoughts, ready for meditation. They learnt that God comes in many forms, and each Hindu may worship a different face of God.
Then, Form Seven travelled to the Derby Jamia Mosque, where they were enthralled to hear about the similarities between Islam and Christianity. They discovered that Muslims face Mecca when praying, and the five pillars hold the central core of their beliefs.
Finally, they visited the Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara, and were given a very informative talk on the 5K's, signs that "baptised" Sikhs wear to demonstrate their faith in their religion. This was followed by a delicious langar meal of chapatis and lentil curry- we sat on the floor and enjoyed this vegetarian meal as a show of unity in the values of equality that Sikhs strive to uphold.
It was a very informative and interesting visit, and Form Seven now have a much clearer and indepth understanding of the world around us!
WELL DONE LEAVERS OF 2018!
